Common Types of Container Cranes

Container crane is an important piece of equipment that is widely used in docks, freight yards, storage yards and other places for efficient transfer of containers.

According to their different types and uses, container cranes are mainly divided into the following types:

1.Shore container crane

This kind of crane moves by a track fixed on the shore, which can easily transfer containers between the ship and the shore. It is composed of components such as gantry, trolley, spreader and cab, with the characteristics of adjustable height and variable extension length, which can adapt to ships and containers of different specifications.

2.Rubber tyred container crane

This kind of crane uses inflatable rubber tires as support, which can walk freely on the freight yard and is used to transfer containers between the yard and the chassis truck. It is composed of front and rear door frames, bottom beams, trolleys, spreaders, cabs and other components, with a high degree of flexibility and fast moving speed.

3.Rail-mounted container crane

This kind of crane is similar to the rubber-tyred type, but it is fixed on the track on the freight yard and can only transfer containers along the track. It is also composed of front and rear door frames, bottom beams, trolleys, spreaders, cabs and other components, with a high degree of stability and low energy consumption.

4.Container gantry crane

This is a large dock gantry crane that is used to load and unload intermodal containers at the container terminal. It consists of a support frame that can cross the length of a dock or freight yard on a railway track. These cranes are equipped with specialized spreaders instead of traditional hooks. The spreader can be lowered to the top of the container and locked on the four locking points of the container using a twist-lock mechanism. Cranes are usually only able to transport one container at a time, but some newer cranes are already capable of picking up 2 to 4 20-foot containers at a time.
