Features of overhead bridge cranes and gantry cranes

A crane is a piece of equipment used to lift and carry heavy loads and has a variety of operating principles and configurations. Generally, crane operating mechanisms use only four main and driven wheels. If the lift is large, additional wheels are usually used to reduce wheel pressure. When there are more than four wheels, an articulated counterbalance frame device must be used to distribute the load of the crane evenly over the wheels. The main girders are rigidly connected to the end girders and the wheels are mounted on the ends of the end girders to support the bridge over the elevation.

1. Cranes are mainly divided into girder cranes and gantry cranes

There are two types of girder cranes: single girder bridge type and double girder bridge type. The main beam of single girder overhead travelling crane is mainly composed of I-beam steel or steel plate, and the lifting trolley is usually assembled by manual hoist, electric hoist or crane as lifting mechanism components. According to the type of bridge support and suspension type, single girder overhead travelling crane is divided into manual crane and electric crane. Manual single girder overhead travelling crane works slowly, lifting small, easy to organise production, low cost, no power supply when using, small handling capacity, low speed and productivity requirements. Electric single girder overhead travelling crane works fast, with high productivity and heavy lifting capacity. Electric single girder overhead travelling crane consists of bridge, trolley travelling mechanism, electric hoist and electrical equipment.

2. Features of gantry cranes

Gantry cranes, on the other hand, are set on two legs to form a gantry shape, and are mainly used for loading and unloading and installation in open yards, wharves, power stations, ports and railway freight stations. Gantry crane lifting mechanism, trolley travelling mechanism, bridge structure and bridge cranes are basically the same. Due to the large span, the crane working mechanism mostly adopts the split drive mode to prevent the crane from running skewed and increase the resistance.
