Grab crane is an automatic picking machine. Its grabbing and unloading actions are operated by the unloader driver and do not require auxiliary personnel. This avoids the heavy labor of workers, saves auxiliary work time, and greatly improves loading and unloading efficiency.

Usually according to the shape, the hook of the grab crane can be divided into single hook and double hook, which are also the most commonly used types. The single hook is easy to manufacture and use, and is used to lift lighter objects; while the double hook has a heavier weight and is generally used to lift heavier objects.

In terms of manufacturing methods, the hooks of grab cranes can be divided into forged hooks and sheet hooks. Generally, forged single hooks are mainly used to lift cranes below 50 tons, and sheet hooks are used to lift cranes around 100 tons.

From the perspective of the cross-section of the hook, there are generally round, square, trapezoidal and "T" shapes. According to the force conditions, the "T" cross-section design is reasonable, but the forging process is also more complicated. The trapezoidal cross-section has a more reasonable force and is easy to forge. The rectangular (square) cross-section is only used for sheet hooks, and the cross-section's bearing capacity is not fully utilized, which is bulky. The round cross-section is only used for small hooks.

As for the forging of the tail of the hook, if a triangular thread is used, due to the severe stress concentration of this structure, it is easy to break at the crack. Therefore, grab cranes mostly use trapezoidal or serrated threads at the tail of large hooks.

Of course, grab cranes cannot be separated from hooks. If you want to better lift and move heavy objects, try to choose some high-quality and guaranteed hooks, which will be beneficial for long-term construction in the later stage.
